Worried by the incessant killings and rise of insecurity in Nigeria, the youths of Taraba Baptist Conference have protested the killings of some of their members in Kogi state and the continuous killings of innocent citizens and insecurity in the country.

Rhapsodi Affos Blog RAB reporter who was at the scene of the protest reports that the youths of all Baptist churches in the state gathered at First Baptist Church, Jalingo to register their disappointment over the continuous killings of youths via a peaceful protest.

The peaceful demonstration gathered people of various branches of the Baptist Church within Taraba. The youths could be seen carrying papers with different inscriptions which are aimed at making a clarion call to the government to rise up to their responsibility and also to the killers to sheath their swords.

It was further gathered by our correspondent that the protest is held nationwide by all Baptist Churches across the country.

Addressing the protesters, Mr. Joel Isaiah, the president of Taraba Baptist youth conference said it has become necessary for the protest because of the rate of killings in the country.

“Last week we woke up to the sad message of the massacre of 14 Baptists members in Kogi state, we are not protesting just because of their death but for the numerous killings in the country; the killings in Southern Kaduna is on the increase, Katsina, Borno we here in Taraba are also having our share of it & all over the country. The worst of it is that a sitting governor was attacked “.

Mr. Joel Isaiah, the president of Taraba Baptist youth conference addressing the protesters

“We the youths of Taraba Baptist Conference are calling on the government in particular to rise to its responsibility of protecting the life of citizens & look deeply into the security of this nation critically except if there is a conspiracy of silence. We believe the government has all it takes to put an end to the killings, Kidnappings and other security issues in this country. We also support there  need for self defense since the government has seemingly failed to protect the life of its subjects”

Mr. Isaiah added that killing the youth is destroying the future of the country and hence the need to stop. The protest ended with a prayer for the country b which was led by National Secretary of the Nigeria Baptist convention Youth Conference,(NBCYC) Mr. Job Emmanuel.
